His Workshops:

Felix Ruckert is a dancer, choreographer, and conceptor. His experimental dance pieces and installations, his participatory work, but also his choreographies for ballet companies have earned him an international reputation as one of the most innovative contemporary choreographers.

For the last thirty years, he has been interested in all sorts of body techniques. He has studied ballet, modern and contemporary dance, improvisation, Feldenkrais, yoga, Chi Kung tantra, Kyudo and much more. He has worked as a dancer with several renowned European companies, in particular Pina Bauch's Tanztheater Wupperthal, before concentrating on choreography and conceptual work.

For the last ten years, he has been involved in a practical and theoretical investigation of BDSM and has explored connections between BDSM techniques and artistic practices, while developing an art and philosophy of sensual communication.

He is the artistic director and curator of xplore Berlin. Along with Dasniya Sommer, he founded the performance laboratory space - schwelle7 - in Berlin, of which he is currently also the director.

Felix Ruckert is in Australia on the invitation of Critical Path and Strut Dance, with the support of the Goethe-Institut

Rituals of Intimacy

Sex and Sensuality. Relating our intimacy to Improvisation? Improvising our intimate relationships? Do we have tools and techniques here just as we have in the dance? Do we have rules and regulations? Do we want them? Can we let fears and desires enter the dance as we do when we love. Do we love our dance?? Do we dance our love?

This workshop wanders far into the realms of sensual encounter. It is about sniffing, smelling, tasting the dance. It is about arousal and frustration, about fear and desire, about the mechanics of sex and the heaven and hell of intimacy.

Contact is seen as a spiritual connection, an emotional state that happens long before and way beyond physical touch.

Resistance Play

A controlled loss of control

In any physical contact with another human being it is important to master clear communication. It is crucial to read, accept and show your feelings, be aware of your and your partner’s possibilities, to respect your fears and limits.

This workshop provides a safe playground for the practice of saying NO, a space for disagreement, for rejecting, refusing, denying and avoiding. We will train the ability to take refuge, regardless of conventions or politeness.

There is however also joy in attack, and power in refusal, there is excitement in provocation and playfulness in resistance and sometimes there is pleasure in overwhelming or in being overwhelmed. Mastering of the NO is used as a precondition to play with these dynamics. It allows us to experiment with the complex psychology of aggression and denial, to discover the liberation that accompanies the acceptance of aggressive impulses as well as the empowerment provided by outright resistance and plain abandonment.

The Dancing Whip: Flogging in Movement

felix-whipWhen the submissive is no longer tied up or accepts whippings with clenched teeth, then motion comes into play!

Between the partners there evolves a form of dance that can be severe and spontaneous, but also smooth and sleek like a cat.

The one who whips can do so in a relatively firm manner, because the submissive defines with his or her movements when and where he or she wants to be hit.

So the submissive becomes the controller of his or her game. In this workshop we will develop our skills with the whip to the point where we are able to hit a moving target without producing unwanted pain or damage.

Please bring your own floggers and whips. They will not be provided.

Note: this is an advanced workshop.
